This page summarises the main points on what is and what is not covered, and the main conditions for participation in Mountain Biking. If your holiday plans for Mountain Biking do not seem to be covered, please contact us by email to explain your requirements.
Mountain Biking - What is covered:
- Cover for Mountain Biking as an amateur, to amateur competition level, in safe conditions, with no time limit on participation, is included at no extra charge in all the above insurance quotes.
- Medical & Repatriation costs : the costs due to an accident or illness sustained abroad (outside your Home Country); for being taken to a suitable hospital to receive necessary emergency medical treatment, and for being repatriated if necessary. Please read Section(A) of the policy for full details.
- Mountain Biking on tours and trails : Mountain Biking on tours and trails is classified as a Medium Risk Activity.
- Downhill Mountain Biking : Downhill Mountain Biking is classified as a High Risk Activity, and cover is for participating subject to condition (3) in the Schedule of Activities, which is that: You are using natural or purpose-built facilities (courses or areas) approved for use for the activity (Downhill Mountain Biking) by a local or national regulatory authority.
- Mountain Biking with travel insurance : This is a travel insurance policy, not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover as per your certificate of insurance must be for the whole duration of a trip, not just the period of participating in Mountain Biking,
and normal travel insurance applies when not participating in Mountain Biking. Insurance must be taken out prior to departure from your home country.
- Higher Excess limit : There is no extra charge for this cover for Mountain Biking, but, to compensate for there being no extra charge, there is a higher Excess in the event of a claim. The Excess, which is the first part of any claim that you pay, is £300 for Medium Risk Activities and is £500 for High Risk Activities, rather than the normal excess for Schedule (A), standard £100, but which can be varied when taking out insurance.
Mountain Biking - What is not covered :
- Personal Liability that is you causing injury or damage whilst Mountain Biking.
- Personal Accident compensation for death or permanent disablement sustained whilst Mountain Biking, not to be confused with emergency medical costs which are covered.
- Mountain Biking - Equipment - your bike itself is not covered, and the full value of helmet and other protective gear may not be adequately covered, see Section (M) Personal Possessions, as sports equipment is only covered to a maximum of £250.
- Mountain Biking other forms : Please contact us for advice before taking out insurance if your requirements for participation do not seem to be covered.
