This page summarises the main points on what is and what is not covered, and the main conditions for participation in Winter Sports. Before optaining a quote, please review the Levels of Cover Categories (3) and (5), and conditions for off-piste participation below.
Winter Sports - Level of Cover - Category (3)
Schedule of Activities Category (3) Normal Winter Sports provides cover under Section (P) of the policy for conventional Winter Sports cover, giving cover for:
- Medical and repatriation cover at the standard medical excess of €100,
- Ski Equipment, unused Ski Pack, Piste Closure,
- Personal Liability.
- Available with the following insurances:
- Single Trip (up to 90 days), as optional extra;
- Annual Multi-Trip (31 days max ), as optional extra;
- Annual Multi-Trip (90 days max ), included in cost;
- Annual Multi-Trip limited to 17 days participation in annual period.
Winter Sports - Level of Cover - Category (5)
Schedule of Activities High Risk Category (5) does not provide cover under Section (P) of the policy:
- But, all the Winter Sports activities in Category (3) and also in Category (5);
- It provides Medical and repatriation cover (only), at the High Risk medical excess of €500;
- There is no limit on the period of participation;
- It applies to all types insurances, at no extra charge, in particular this applies to Long Stay, Backpackers insurance, which does not qualify for the category (3) level of cover.
Medical costs include being taken from where the injury occurred to a suitable hospital for emergency medical treatment, as approved by our Emergency Service. Cover also includes Search & Rescue under Section (T) of the policy.
Skiing and Snowboarding Off Piste - special conditions:
Within designated safe areas: Off Piste Skiing and boarding within areas that are designated as being safe by the resort management is not covered
(excluded) unless the following requirements are adhered to:
(a) 'Check out' and 'check in' ie. you must let somebody know where you are going, how many are in the group, and when you are likely to return, and report back accordingly;
(b) A minimum of four people to ski together in a group;
(c) Avalanche transceivers must be worn.
Outside designated safe areas: Off Piste Skiing and boarding outside areas that are designated as being safe by the resort management is not covered
(excluded) unless the following requirements are adhered to:
the reguirements as detailed (a), (b), (c) above, and you must be accompanied by a qualified mountain guide who has knowledge of the resort.
