This is travel insurance (for residents of United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Channel Islands) that optionally can include cover for altitude trekking, at no extra charge. The period of cover must be for the whole duration of your trip, not just the part that will be at altitude. It is NOT activity top-up insurance that can be added on to another insurance, but you can have it as well as another insurance.

Cover for Altitude Trekking up to 4000m:

  • Holiday Activities Category (1), where the normal medical excess of £80 applies, covers TREKKING to 1500m.
  • Medium Risk Activities Category (4), where the higher medical excess of £300 applies, (see what is and is not covered opposite) for TREKKING to 4000m.

Go to the Contact us page, where you can send an email to our Customers Services, csm@etravelinsure.com, in the suggested format for the information required for referral to our underwriters for trekking over 4000m, which is given under the headings :

  • Can I get cover for trekking Inca Trail?
  • Can I get cover for trekking Kilimanjaro?
  • Can I get cover for any Other Trekking over 4000m?

Other Trekking may be for any other popular trek, such as: several in Annapurna region, Everest Base Camp, Atlas Mountains.

If you don't want to follow the suggested email referral format above, you will need to summarise details of the trek over 4000m in an email, and give a link to your trek on the website of the trek provider; And, give your age, and confirm that "you have no respiratory problems, no other health problems, and that you have not had previous problems at altitude"; Any other relevant information is helpful, such as: training and acclimatisation plans, previous experience of trekking at altitude.

You may apply for cover for trekking over 4000m after departure, but then there is obviously a chance that it may not be agreed. Therefore, if you intend to be trekking over 4000m, but have not booked up the treks(s) before departure, it is best to get provisional agreement to extend cover, subject to you confirming details of the trek(s) when booked.
