Paragliding - What is covered:
  • Medical & Repatriation costs : are costs incurred due to an accident or illness sustained abroad (outside your Home Country); it covers transport to a suitable hospital to receive necessary emergency medical treatment, and for being repatriated if necessary. Please read Section(A) of the policy for full details of Medical cover.
  • Paragliding with travel insurance : This is a Travel Insurance policy, not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover as per your certificate of insurance must be for the whole duration of a trip, not just the period of participating in paragliding. Insurance must be taken out prior to departure from your home country. Normal travel insurance applies when not participating in paragliding.
  • Higher Excess limit : There is no extra charge for this cover for paragliding, but, to compensate for there being no extra charge, Paragliding is classified as a High Risk activity, for which there is a higher Excess in the event of a claim. The Excess, which is the first part of any claim that you pay, is €750 for High Risk Activities, rather than the normal excess for Schedule (A) which is €120.
  • Rescue costs : costs of transport to a suitable hospital are covered under Section (A) of the policy only when emergency medical treatment is needed.
  • Search & Rescue costs : Section (T) of our policy provides limited but useful additional cover for other 'search & rescue' costs when provided by any recognised rescue service.
Paragliding - What is not covered :
  • Personal Liability is not covered (that is you causing injury or damage) when paragliding; therefore, it is essential to have this type of cover from some other source, usually through your paragliding organisation.
  • Personal Accident is not covered (compensation for death or permanent disablement), not to be confused with emergency medical costs which are covered.
  • Paragliding Equipment - the full value of your equipment will probably not be adequately covered, see Section (M) Personal Possessions, as sports equipment is only covered to a maximum of €375.

IMPORTANT CONDITIONS: Make sure that your 'take off' area is approved or considered safe for paragliding by a local or national regulatory authority, and do not 'take off' without having someone monitoring or knowing of your plans. Inform us by email well beforehand of the circumstances if it is likely that these conditions are not going to apply, as we shall need to give specific approval of cover according to the circumstances.

Wear all the recommended safety gear;

Ensure that weather conditions and official forecasts of conditions are suitable for 'safe and normal' participation, for your level of experience, throughout the whole sequence from take-off to landing.

There is no time limit on participation, to amateur competition level.

If you already have Travel Insurance, but require cover for paragliding : You can take out our travel insurance; it must cover the whole duration of a trip. However, you can discount the charge for our travel insurance by not having cover for cancellation, baggage and double excess. These are options on taking out insurance that can reduce the cost by 30%

Age Limits:
For Single Trip and Annual options, those aged under 66
Long Stay Backpacker is only for adults aged under 40.
