This page summarises the main points on what is and what is not covered, and the main conditions for participation in Scuba Diving. If your holiday plans for Scuba Diving do not seem to be covered, please contact us by email to explain your requirements.

Scuba Diving - What is covered :
  • Cover for Scuba Diving as an amateur, in safe conditions, with no time limit on participation, is included at no extra charge in all the above insurance quotes.
  • It is travel insurance including cover for Scuba Diving. It is not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover as per your certificate of insurance must be for the whole duration of a trip, not just the period of Scuba Diving, and normal travel insurance applies when not participating in Scuba Diving.
  • Scuba Diving whilst being accompanied :All divers must be accompanied by a qualified Dive Instructor, except in circumstances where they are themselves qualified to dive without an Instructor, in which case diving must be with a companion on a 'buddy pair' basis.
  • For unqualified divers, Scuba Diving to maximum depth of 18m is classed as a Holiday Activity Category (1), where the normal medical excess of €100 applies, covers divers with no grade/qualification to a maximum depth of 18m.
  • BSAC/PADI or equivalent grade/qualification Scuba Divers are covered to dive to the depth that their qualification permits up to 30m as an activity classed as a Holiday Activity Category (1), where the normal medical excess of €100 applies. And, if their qualification permits diving between 30m and 40m diving within that 10m depth is classed as High Risk Activities Category (5), where the medical excess of €500 applies.
  • Please contact us if your holiday Scuba Diving plans are beyond the limits of these conditions.
Scuba Diving - What is not covered :
  • Personal Liability : (that is you causing injury or damage) whilst diving over 30m.
  • Personal Accident : (compensation for death or permanent disablement sustained) whilst diving over 30m, not to be confused with emergency medical costs which are covered.
  • Scuba Diving - Equipment - your equipment may not fully covered, see Section (M) Personal Possessions, as sports equipment is only covered to a maximum of £250, as is not covered for loss or damage when being used. Hired equipment is not covered at all.
  • Dangerous expeditions : - there is a General Exclusion for going anywhere that is extremely remote, or which is outside the range of normal rescue facilities.
  • Diving work of any kind for payment, remuneration, or benefit is not covered.
  • Any illness or loss due to air travel within 24 hours of diving is not covered.
