- Cover for paragliding is cover for medical emergency & repatriation and search & rescue costs.
- The relevant sections of the policy for full details are:
- This page summarises the main points on what is and what is not covered, and the main conditions for participation in paragliding. If your holiday plans for paragliding do not seem to be covered, please contact us by email to explain your requirements.
Paragliding - What is covered:
- Medical & Repatriation costs : are costs incurred due to an accident or illness sustained abroad (outside your Home Country); it covers transport to a suitable hospital to receive necessary emergency medical treatment, and for being repatriated if necessary. Please read Section(A) of the policy for full details of Medical cover.
- Paragliding with travel insurance :
This is a Travel Insurance policy, not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover as per your certificate of insurance must be for the whole duration of a trip, not just the period of participating in paragliding.
Normal travel insurance applies when not participating in paragliding.
- Higher Excess limit : There is no extra charge for this cover for paragliding, but, to compensate for there being no extra charge, Paragliding is classified as a High Risk activity, for which there is a higher Excess in the event of a claim. The Excess, which is the first part of any claim that you pay, is £500 for High Risk Activities, rather than the normal excess for Schedule (A) which is £80.
- Rescue costs : costs of transport to a suitable hospital are covered under Section (A) of the policy only when emergency medical treatment is needed.
- Search & Rescue costs : Section (T) of our policy provides limited but useful additional cover for other 'search & rescue' costs when provided by any recognised rescue service.
Paragliding - What is not covered :
- Personal Liability is not covered (that is you causing injury or damage) when paragliding; therefore, it is essential to have this type of cover from some other source, usually through your paragliding organisation.
- Personal Accident is not covered (compensation for death or permanent disablement), not to be confused with emergency medical costs which are covered.
- Paragliding Equipment - the full value of your equipment will probably not be adequately covered, see Section (M) Personal Possessions, as sports equipment is only covered to a maximum of £250.
