- Cover for paragliding is cover for medical emergency & repatriation and search & rescue costs.
- The relevant sections of the policy for full details are:
- This page summarises the main points on what is and what is not covered, and the main conditions for participation in paragliding. If your holiday plans for paragliding do not seem to be covered, please contact us by email to explain your requirements.
Paragliding - What is covered:
- Medical & Repatriation costs : are costs relating to an accident or illness sustained outside Ireland, that is possibly: being taken to a suitable hospital to receive necessary emergency medical treatment; and being repatriated if necessary. Please read Section(A) of the policy for full details.
Paragliding is classified as a High Risk Activity, for which the terms and conditions are set out in our Schedule of Activities, via sports & activities link opposite.
Basically, there is no extra charge for this cover for paragliding, but, to compensate for there being no extra charge, there is a higher Excess in the event of a claim.
The Excess, which is the first part of any claim that you pay, is €750 for High Risk Activities, rather than the normal excess for Schedule (A) which is €120. It is travel insurance, not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover as per your certificate of insurance must be for the whole duration of a trip, not just the period of participating in paragliding,
and normal travel insurance applies when not participating in paragliding.
- Rescue costs : costs of transport to a suitable hospital are covered under Section (A) of the policy only when emergency medical treatment is needed.
- Search & Rescue costs : Section (T) of our policy provides limited but useful additional cover for other 'search & rescue' costs when provided by any recognised rescue service.
Paragliding - What is not covered :
- Personal Liability (that is you causing injury or damage) when paragliding; therefore, it is essential to have this type of cover from some other source, usually through your paragliding organisation.
- Personal Accident (compensation for death or permanent disablement), not to be confused with emergency medical costs which are covered.
- Paragliding Equipment - the full value of your equipment will probably not be adequately covered, see Section (M) Personal Possessions, as sports equipment is only covered to a maximum of €375.
