Sports, activities and work : are divided into categories in the Schedule of Activities: (1) Holiday, (2) Work, (3) Winter Sports, (4) Medium Risk and (5) High Risk. As there is no extra charge, for more dangerous activities in categories (4) and (5) higher medical excess amounts apply, and there are some restrictions on cover. See our Schedule of Activities for details, via the sports & activities link or select links for specific activities.

Winter Sports activities are included at no extra charge within our High Risk category of activities. Although, conventional winter sports holiday cover is also optionally available for all short trip and 31 day annual insurance policies at additional cost, but is inclusive in the cost of the 90 day annual insurance policy. For more details, click the Winter Sports link under popular adventure sports.

Cover for skydiving and paragliding : Cover for these activities is not included initially on taking out insurance, but can be added any time later at the additional cost of €4.00 per day for actual day(s) of participating. For more details, click the skydiving or paragliding link under popular adventure sports.

This is travel insurance (for Irish residents) not activity top-up insurance, therefore the period of cover for underlying travel insurance must be for the whole duration of your trip, not just the days that will be participating.

Being aged 17 : Children aged 16 or under cannot travel independently but are eligible to be included in the insurance of parents or adults with whom they will travel. The age limit for adults under our travel insurance begins at age 17, which is ideal for those of that age who need to travel independently.

Healthcare considerations for visiting France

France is particularly good for healthy activite summer and winter sports holidays, with the added enjoyment of tasting authentic French cuisine such as: Bouillabaisse, Salad Lyonnaise, or Cassoulet, perhaps washed down with some French wine: a bottle of Bordeaux or Burgundy, in the relaxed ambience of 'the French way of doing things'.

If you become ill or have an accident in France, France has reciprocal healthcare arrangements with Ireland. But, travel insurance is needed for emergency medical treatment and repatriation, as not all costs are covered. When using doctors or dentists 'conventionne', within the French health system, or receiving hospital out-patient treatment in France, a signed statement of treatment (feuille de soins) is provided to claim a refund of usually about 70% of costs from the local Sickness Insurance Office (CPAM). For in-patient treatment in France, an EHIC is needed, and the CPAM pay 75% of costs to the hospital direct; for the balance of costs you need travel insurance.

  • being accompanied by experienced guides,
